  1. My father, Rankin "Tip" Tippins, from Auburn, Alabama was on the Pickens in 1945. He was a signalman. He is now 88 years old and living in St. Joseph, Michigan. His e-mail address is rtippins@aol.com. I would very much appreciate it if you could send the picture of the USS Pickens to him.

  2. Dear Mr Lowe, thank you so much for this Blog. My dad John "Jack" M. Bellis was a LT J.G. on the Pickens. He usually only told funny stories about the Pickens. On one day in 1991, he opened up to me about the way it was bringing the Marine wounded off Iwo Jima, and what it was like going in to Okinawa. He broke down crying, and I think it may have been the one and only time he ever did. He knew Joe Rosenthal too, and had spoken to him several times. Dad passed in 1995. I would love a photo of the Pickens, if you are able. My email address is rit_bellis@hotmail.com . Thank you very much for your service, and for the light you have shined on the war. You are a very good writer.
