On the way to government insurance

Like it  our not our hospital insurance is going to be "free. that is it will not have a cost " but it will be paid for by taxes."  Judging from experiences of England and Canada.  every thing has a cost.   We began in that direction with Obama care and we may have improved it, but someone has to pay  the bill..

Spring

February is gone and spring will soon spring forward in all its beauty.  I wish that I could plant flowers and vegetables.  I remember planting sugar cane and Irish potatoes, two of the earliest activities on the farm.  Now, I am fortunate to see roses beginning to bloom.  The pear tree is the only flowering tree we now have and it must be sprayed to control blight.

My mom would be 113 today.

February is our shortest month but it is filled with special days. Among them I thought I could never forget was the invasion of Iwo Jima. Our ship took Marines to the islands for several days of fierce fighting. I remember the flag raising, whic led to the famous picture, followed by statures being erected.

My memories of the "Day in Infamy"

I was in the backyard that Sunday afternoon when someone had heard over the radio that Japan had bombed Hawaii and our  Navy.  We went to school as always Monday morning. quiet and bewildered

Our day was spent listening to Congress declare war (lacking only one positive vote.)  We heard the president, Roosevelt,   call the attack "a day  in infamy"
